Tiger King star Joe Exotic 'wants Brad Pitt to play him' in movie of his life

Infamous exotic animal keeper Joe Exotic reportedly wants Brad Pitt to play him in a film.

The star of Netflix docuseries Tiger King - real name Joe Maldonado-Passage - is currently serving a prison sentence for his plot to kill rival and animal rights activist Carole Baskin.

However, Joe sounds keen for his life to be put to film and has some ideas on who he wants to play him.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, director Rebecca Chaiklin confirmed that Exotic has spoken of his desire for an actor to portray him.

She revealed: "He would like Brad Pitt or David Spade to play him."

We're not surprised he'd want Mr Pitt to play him as the Hollywood hunk has recently been thrust back into the spotlight following his Oscar-winning role in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

As THR then joked about the "wide net" of his options, Chaiklin added: "He doesn’t refer to David Spade as David Spade — he refers to him as 'Joe Dirt.'"

The director also reflected on the success of Tiger King and why viewers across the world have taken such an interest in Exotic - with some even dressing up as the criminal while at home as part of an Instagram challenge.

She said: "I think that it’s a very uncertain time and people want an escape, and this is a world that very few people knew existed, inhabited by some very colorful, charismatic characters."

Chaiklin hopes that the series provides a break from the anxieties that the world faces during the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon is set to portray Carole Baskin in a new television series based on Tiger King.

As revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Baskin has since issued a statement about what she wants from the series: CGI cats.

She noted: “We hope McKinnon has a passion for animals and that her series will focus on the horrible lives captive big cats lead when exploited by breeders like Joe Exotic.

"We further hope she urges the public to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act that would end the cub petting abuse in America."

Will the stars of Tiger King prefer this fictionalised version?

Tiger King: Murder, Madness and Mayhem is available now on Netflix.
