Tiger King star Joe Exotic has contracted coronavirus in prison

Tiger King star Joe Exotic has contracted coronavirus in prison.

The infamous big cat owner, who features in the most talked about Netflix show of the moment, is serving a 22-year sentence for animal abuse and his involvement in a murder-for-hire scheme.

Joe, real name Maldonado-Passage, had been in self-isolation but has now tested positive for Covid-10, according to a report from the facility.

There are currently 226,374 confirmed cases of the deadly virus in the US.

Joe's fourth husband Dillon Passage told entertainment host Andy Cohen recently that he was concerned Joe could contract the bug because the coronavirus was already present in his prison.

His fourth husband Dillon Passage, 24, recently spoke out to say he was concerned Joe would contract the potentially deadly virus, as it was present in the prison.

Speaking on Andy Cohen's Sirius XM Radio show on Wednesday, Dillon said: ""We speak like three to five times every day, but since he's been moved to this new facility, they are putting him on a COVID-19 isolation because of the previous jail he was at, there were cases.

"I've yet to speak to him since he moved."

Dillon then confirmed that Joe is in his own COVID-19 quarantine, confirming: "From what I know, yes. From what he told me."

The controversial reality star has been transferred from Oklahoma's Grady County Jail to the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, US media report.

The 'zookeper' rose to fame in the last couple of weeks after his documentary was released on Netflix and quickly became a popular meme subject thanks to his dress sense, unusual way of life, and an obsession with an animal rights activist called Carole Baskin.

Joe, who previously featured in a Louis Theroux documentary, was imprisoned in 2019 after he was found guilty of paying a hitman $3,000 to kill nemesis Carole.

Dillon has pledged to wait for him until he is released.

He told Adam Cohen: "I do love Joe. He's been with my through my darkest times, and I'm not going to just dip out and abandon him when he needs me most."
