Tiger King's John Reinke 'hasn't made a penny' from show despite filming for six years

John Reinke rose to fame after appearing the the smash hit Netlix documentary series, Tiger King.

While the much-loved star earned notoriety from the show based on Joe Exotic, he has insisted that he never earned a penny.

Tiger King garnered more than 34million viewers in its first 10 days of release after its debut in mid-March, but since then, John hasn't received any pay, he claims.

The star told TooFab: "I filmed that thing for five or six years, and didn't make biscuits out of that.

"Netflix made all the money on that. I have heard that some people made money on it, and that kind of irritates me a little bit.

"But I've not tried to make money at all through this... until now," he added.

John, who worked for and alongside Joe Exotic for over 14 years, also explained why he didn't sue 'his friends' after he lost his legs.

The star passed on the chance to file a lawsuit against the owners of a company he was working for in 1994 on a county fair-based zip line attraction.

The harrowing accident left him temporarily paralyzed and eventually led to him losing his feet.

Speaking to the outlet, he recalled: "We were getting it ready and testing it out, and the pulley failed and I fell 50 feet. I broke my back, my hip, shattered my feet. I was paralyzed for a couple of years."

Not wanting to live the rest of his life in a wheelchair, John taught himself how to walk again.

Despite the fact that he succeeded in doing so, the star admitted that it was evidently a bad idea, as it led him to having his feet and lower legs removed due to pressure damage.

After the life-changing accident, John added that the owners of the organisation later won $16million in a Texas lottery.

Despite their winnings, John didn't receive any pay out for his accident, nor did he pursue any because he got 'royally screwed over'.

He explained: "Back then you didn't sue your friends, you know, and they were friends of mine. They said they'd take care of me, and anyways, I'm alright. I take care of myself."

Opening up about the show's main focus, Joe Exotic, John insisted that the prisoner is "not where he should be" in terms of his sentence.

"He shouldn't be in there for 22 years. He did do some stuff wrong, but I think he's done enough time," he added.

Joe is currently serving time behind bars after being convicted of two counts of murder-for-hire - having taken out a hit on his enemy Carole Baskin - and 17 wildlife charges.
