Tiger King's Carole Baskin to be played by Kate McKinnon in upcoming serialisation

Tiger King star Carole Baskin will be played by Kate McKinnon in an upcoming podcast serialisation of the Netflix documentary.

McKinnon, 36, has starred in films including Bombshell, Ghostbusters, and The Spy Who Dumped Me.

She also appears on US sketch show Saturday Night Live.

Netflix's Tiger King has been the subject of international fascination since its release, telling the stories of three warring big cat owners, Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin and Doc Antle.

McKinnon announced she will be playing Baskin, 58, and executive producing a series adaption of the Wondery podcast 'Joe Exotic'.

In the serialisation, Baskin finds out that Joe "Exotic" Schreibvogel is breeding big cats for profit, and she sets to shut him down.

Joe accuses her of hypocrisy, and a years-long battle ensues.

McKinnon will star alongside Wondery's Hernan Lope and Marshall Lewy, but no other cast members have yet been announced.

A network for the show has not yet been confirmed either.

Baskin herself has released a statement about the upcoming series, and urged the directors not to use real big cats, to avoid exploitation.

Kate McKinnon is a wonderful actress. Big Cat Rescue implores Kate McKinnon to not use real big cats and cubs in the making of her series," she said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

"It would be cruel to use real big cats in a television series about cruelty to big cats," she continued.

"We hope McKinnon has a passion for animals and that her series will focus on the horrible lives captive big cats lead when exploited by breeders like Joe Exotic.

"We further hope she urges the public to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act that would end the cub petting abuse in America," she concluded.
