Tiger King creators working on new documentary on the 2003 tiger attack which ended Siegfried & Roy's show

The creators of the Netflix series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness have revealed plans for a new documentary about magicians and entertainers Siegfried & Roy.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the special will be about the 2003 mauling attack on Roy Horn which ended their long-running Las Vegas show.

The incident saw a tiger attack Horn on stage, severing his spine and leaving him with permanent injuries.

Wildlife veterinarian Dr James Liu – who indicated he was a member of Tiger King’s production team – told the Hollywood Reporter that a sequel about this attack is in the works and will serve as “a higher-minded corrective” to the hugely popular first series.

However, a spokeswoman for Goode Films, the production company behind Tiger King, said it was “untrue that the direction is going in a more conservational route” in forthcoming sequel material.

Horn recently died from coronavirus complications at the age of 75, in Las Vegas.

The docuseries Tiger King, which debuted in March, is about the life of zookeeper Joe Exotic and the bizarre underworld of big cat breeding.

According to Nielsen, the series delivered more than 34 million viewers to Netflix in its first 10 days of release, topping the streamer’s previous record holder, Stranger Things 2.

With more streaming taking place during lockdown, Tiger King became the first pandemic pop culture phenomenon, helping Netflix gain 15.8 million paying customers in the first three months of the year.
