Tiffany Haddish vows to 'stand with women,' cancels upcoming Georgia performance due to state's abortion ban

Tiffany Haddish is standing up against Georgia's abortion ban.

The comedian and "Girls Trip" star, who was scheduled to perform stand-up at the Fox Theatre Atlanta on Saturday, has canceled the upcoming show in the wake of the state's controversial heartbeat bill.

"After much deliberation, I am postponing my upcoming show in Atlanta," Haddish announced in a statement to ticket-holders. "I love the state of Georgia, but I need to stand with women and until they withdraw Measure HB481, I cannot in good faith perform there."

The Fox Theatre is offering refunds for the performance.

Georgia's heartbeat bill was signed into law in early May. The legislation states that "unborn children are a class of living, distinct persons," and would ban abortions as soon as a fetal heartbeat is detected, as early as six weeks into a pregnancy when a woman might not even be aware she is pregnant. The law is scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1, 2020, though organizations such as the ACLU have vowed to challenge it.
