Tier 3 lockdown rules means big change for funerals

Liverpool is set to officially be placed under strict new measures to help tackle rising coronavirus cases in the region on Wednesday.

Liverpool City Region will be under Tier 3 in the new lockdown rules system outlined by Prime Minister Boris Johnson yesterday.

Mr Johnson laid out a new three tier lockdown system, with areas placed in Medium (Tier 1), High (Tier 2) or Very High (Tier 3) areas.

Wedding receptions have been banned under the new Tier 3 rules and there is also a big change for funerals.

Under the new rules funerals can still go ahead with up to 30 mourners regardless of the Covid-19 alert level.

But the number allowed to attend a wake has been cut to 15 in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 areas.

Government guidance did not previously include a 15-person limit on gatherings after a funeral service.

The existing social distancing rules continue to apply, such as keeping two metres apart and wearing a face covering indoors.

The new measures are set to come into force on Wednesday, with many businesses closed and activities curtailed in the Liverpool City Region Tier 3 measures.

From tomorrow pubs, bars, gyms and leisure centres, casinos, betting shops and adult gaming centres will all be forced to close.

People are banned from socialising with anyone outside their household indoors or in private gardens.

People are being advised to avoid travelling outside the area other than for work and education.

People are also being advised to "avoid" staying overnight in another part of the UK.

But restaurants and pubs selling extensive food will remain open for now and schools and universities are also open as normal.
