Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve has waived all entry fees for the rest of 2020 to encourage locals to visit and holiday in the ACT.
ACT environment minister Mick Gentleman is encouraging Canberrans to experience the beauty of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve for free, given other tourist destinations such as Queensland are off-limits.
"The reserve is a great day-trip option right on our doorstep as we continue to urge Canberrans to reconsider their need to travel unless it is for essential reasons," he said.
After closing earlier in the year following the Orroral Valley bushfires, the park has had a facelift.
"The Tidbinbilla team have done some incredible work this year repairing several areas of the reserve in the wake of fire and flood. The Cascades and Lyrebird trails have new viewing platforms and the Sanctuary and Ribbon Gum Theatre paths have been revamped and repainted," Mr Gentleman said.
The visitor centre has also had a revamp in response to COVID-19, welcoming visitors back into the reserve.
Although open again, Mr Gentleman said it was important visitors continued to act under government health advice by maintaining physical distancing and hygiene.
The Nil Desperandum Homestead and trail is still under renovation but the rest of the park is open to visitors.
