'Ticks all the boxes' - Ipswich Town boss delighted with signing of Leeds United man

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has claimed Leif Davis ‘ticks all the boxes’ following his arrival from Leeds United on Monday. Davis ended his four-year stay at Elland Road by putting pen-to-paper on a three-year-deal with the Tractor Boys.

At 22, Davis is now in desperate need of regular game time in order to aid his development; he made just 14 senior appearances for Leeds, before playing 15 matches on loan at Bournemouth last season. That said, Davis has shown some promising signs in the first team games he has played and is a significant coup for a League One side.

Via quotes from TWTD, McKenna claimed he is a player that will require patience given his lack of experience but is very pleased with the attributes he will bring to the club.

He said: “[I am] Very happy with him as a signing. He’s someone that we’ve watched a lot and know, we think, very well.

“He ticks all the boxes that we’re looking for, really good age, lots of room to grow and improve, hungry to establish his career now and get a run of games and see what level he can hit.

“A fantastic athlete, a really good runner, good speed, good speed endurance, excellent at getting up and down the line and has a really good left foot. Ticks a lot of boxes for us and someone that we were really keen to bring in.

“It wasn’t an easy one to get done, the club worked very hard on it and we think he’s going to be a good addition for us for now.

“But also he’s a very young player still and hasn’t played a whole catalogue of games in his career, so he’s going to need lots of support, he’s going to need encouragement and patience at times from everyone, which is the case for all young players but we think that if he can reach anywhere near his potential then we’ve got a really good prospect on our hands.”
