Tickets for Dippy in Newcastle - here's how to book up to see the famous dinosaur skeleton

Dippy in in town and this weekend the 21-metre long Diplodocus skeleton cast will be unveiled - at long last - to an admiring public.

It will go on show at Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle from Saturday, May 17 and will be receiving visitors throughout the summer.

Following news of how the city museum was picked to help host Dippy's first ever tour outside of London, excitement has been building ahead of its arrival.

The Chronicle visited behind-the-scenes this week as the giant visitor was being assembled ready to meet the public.

And, following painstaking work reassembling the bone sections - following their dismantling at the last host venue - the exhibition  - Dippy on Tour: A Natural History Adventure - is all set to launch.

Given the level of interest in the exhibition, it's little surprise that the next five weekends' viewing slots are fully booked.

Museum staff advise families without a ticket not to turn up on its debut weekend to avoid disappointment.

While a handful of daily walk-ins can be catered for during the course of Dippy's visit, they still encourage everyone to pre-book a visit.

And, considering the giant Dippy will remain here until October 6, there will be plenty opportunity to find a time to suit.
