Ticket resale sites benefit ordinary fans

StubHub has already gone above and beyond many of the requirements of the Competition and Markets Authority (Report, 5 March), offering an all-in pricing model, which means the price fans see upfront is the price they pay – there are no hidden fees. We fully comply with what the CMA requires. Customers are able to easily contact us in rare instances when something goes wrong, and we also ensure a ticket’s face value is clearly displayed. This is perhaps why we have some of the highest customer service scores in the industry.

We strongly support transparency for the consumer.  But the consumer rights bill raises serious questions around whether event organisers should be allowed to cancel tickets and blacklist ordinary fans who resell tickets. We seriously question whether any prohibitions on resale would be reasonably considered to be fair. Such practices will harm fans and push ticket resale out of safe, transparent marketplaces like StubHub, which offers extensive protection to consumers, and back into the shadows where there is no protection at all.
