This World Series is shaping up to be historic and this milestone has nothing to do with the players on the field.
When the Indians and the Chicago Cubs take the field Tuesday night, some of those lucky ticket holders at Progressive Field will have paid a pretty penny to see the first pitch.
One broker says the average price of tickets for Games 1 and 2 in Cleveland are already the "most expensive World Series" ticket prices ever tracked.
And when compared to the Cavaliers NBA Finals run last year, Jesse Lawrence, founder and CEO of ticketiQ, said the Indians tickets are now almost three times as expensive.
Tickets for the four games scheduled at Progressive Field are listed for an average price of $3,286. The tickets for the Cleveland games were selling for an average price of $1,640 as of Monday.
This is a bargain compared to average asking prices to the three games at Wrigley Field _ $6,048. The average sale price to the Chicago games is coming in at $3,870.
"I doubt we'll ever see another World Series at these levels, given the 208-year combined [championship] dry spell," Lawrence said via email.
By comparison, ticketiQ, reports the average ticket prices for Super Bowl 50 were $5,390.
Kevin Burke, a spokesman for ticket broker StubHub, notes similar high demand for World Series tickets this fall at his company.
Burke notes that a fan could see a week's worth of Cavs games for the same money as a single World Series game is now being sold on the secondary ticket market.
