American rapper TI was the subject of a backlash in 2019, after he said he takes his teenage daughter to the gynaecologist every year to “check her hymen” and make sure it’s “still intact”.
Now, a new reality TV show reveals how his daughter Deyjah Imani Harris reacted to her father making that information public.
In next week’s episode of TI & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle, a series about the rapper’s family life, Deyjah can be heard saying: “Things are completely awkward between me and my dad.”
She also confides in her friends on camera, telling them she was caught off-guard by her father’s comments.
“The situation is just a little traumatising for me,” she says.
TI, on the other hand, can be seen refusing to apologise.
The story originally emerged in November last year, when TI told Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham on the Ladies Like Uspodcast: “We have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen.
“So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk and you know, the doctor will maintain a high level of professionalism. And he’s like: ‘Well, you know sir, in order for me to share information...’ and I say: ‘Deyjah they want you to sign this. They want you to sign this. So we can share information. Is there anything that you would not want me to know? See Doc, no problem.’”
The rapper then added: “As of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact,” before joking that people don’t want to have sex with a virgin because they are “no fun”.
The father-of-six’s “disturbing” comments sparked backlash on social media, where he was accused of being “coercive” and “creepy”.
