New Blood
9pm, BBC1
A very well put-together new series, this, in which corrupt dealings in the pharmaceutical industry are the backdrop for a character story about two young professionals. The story begins with backpackers taking part in a drug trial in India. Fast forward six years and we’re back in London with a murder at a tower block and one of our drug guinea pigs in quite a bad way. Can Stefan (Mark Strepan) and Arash (Ben Tavassoli) find out how the conspiracy all fits together? Written by Foyle’s War creator Anthony Horowitz. John Robinson
Peaky Blinders
9pm, BBC2
Despite moments of heavy metal overkill, Peaky Blinders has established itself as a gripping and thankfully ongoing drama. Tonight’s climax features Godfather allusions and multiple moments that will make your jaw drop like an anvil, as Tommy finds himself and his family in danger of being torn apart by his audacious criminal involvements. Paddy Considine is brilliant as an evil priest, while Tom Hardy’s gangster Alfie Solomons all but steals the show with an excoriating speech. David Stubbs
Inside Birmingham Children’s Hospital
9pm, Channel 4
If a look inside Birmingham Children’s Hospital isn’t enough to move you to tears, the first episode of this new series focuses on fathers bravely dealing with their kids’ illnesses. Charlie’s dad is donating part of his liver to his son and the moment they see each other after their operations steals the show. Josh, who’s struggling with his emotions after his mum died, is looked after by his big brother and their relationship will have you sobbing. Hannah Verdier
MAKE! Craft Britain
9pm, BBC4
Martha Kearney celebrates the current craze for crafting and explores the “profound sense of achievement and wellbeing that craft can bring” – unless you accidentally stab yourself in the leg with a pin. In Yorkshire, we follow Marna Lunt as she welcomes newcomers to her lampshade-embroidery workshop. Meantime, over in London, Christine Green guides students (and viewers) in the art of paper-cutting and 3D greetings cards. “It’s the making itself that counts,” beams Martha. Ali Catterall
The Good Wife
9pm, More4
Following a surprise axing earlier this year, the political-slash-legal drama nears the end of its final run. As Howard and Jackie celebrate their engagement, some other Florrick family announcements threaten to overshadow the evening, with Zach unveiling shocking news and word getting around about Alicia’s divorce. As well as the obligatory will-they, won’t-they between Alicia and Jason, there’s also a dose of action as Eli puts Jason back on Peter’s case. Hannah J Davies
Gold Digger And Proud
10pm, Channel 5
Here’s an unedifying invite: to meet some of Britain’s most ruthless gold diggers. Women determined to extricate riches from wealthy men, and men happily dispensing those riches in return for the attention of any suitable piece of arm candy. With romance replaced by rampant commercialism, the only way this documentary could leave you feeling positive about the world is if you’ve just bought shares in Gucci. Mark Gibbing-Jones
Nuclear Meltdown
10pm, Eden
A blow-by-blow account of the Fukushima nuclear disaster caused by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and the resulting tsunami. Presented by PBS’s science series Nova, it follows the events of 11 March as they unfolded, with access to both the site and the technicians on the ground as waves raced towards the Daiichi facility. It also details the close call seven miles south at the second plant at Daini, and reveals the man who prevented further catastrophe. Ben Arnold
Film choice
Braveheart (Mel Gibson, 1995) 9pm, Film4
A dauntingly long but powerful medieval romance-cum-gut-ripper, with Gibson, long before his fall from grace, directing himself as the legendary 13th-century Scottish hero, William Wallace. We get glorious Highland landscapes, some of the most furious battle scenes ever, two pleasing love stories, and a distinctly Hollywood-style history lesson as he reluctantly leads the fight for freeeedooom!! from the rotten English. Paul Howlett
