Double Decker Driving School
8.30pm, ITV
Getting a job as a London bus driver is a fiercely competitive business. A recent vacancy at bus company Arriva drew 20,000 applications. If you do manage to get on their six-week course, it’s an intensive business, putting potential drivers in charge of a 24ft, 10-ton vehicle. Single mum Claire is hoping to become one of the surprisingly slim 1% who make it through to full qualification, but her nerves threaten to derail her. Meanwhile, Yas from Gloucester has a few issues with authority. Ben Arnold
The Truth About Sugar
9pm, BBC1
Not, sadly, an exposé of the Apprentice mogul but a new series investigating the alarming role sugar plays in our lives. “We Brits love our sugar!” chirrups Fiona Phillips, setting the somewhat inane tone, but beneath that there are some salutary warnings about the amount of the stuff that lurks even in Bran Flakes and pad thai noodles. Meanwhile, Phillips helps re-educate four members of the public whose sallow appearance is down to excessive sugar intake, well above the already generous WHO guidelines. David Stubbs
Banished
9pm, BBC2
Short rations, sexual servitude and searing sun. Episode three of Jimmy McGovern’s colony saga, and it’s safe to say things are grim down under. Still, as the convicts build a church on their own time, there’s hope. Oh, hang on, Governor Phillip thinks his prisoners need to rest rather than expend valuable calories on non-essential projects. The bit tonight where James (Russell Tovey) doesn’t, as he fears, meet his maker is rather predictable, but beyond that, a multilayered drama where the plot unfolds in unexpected ways. Terrific. Jonathan Wright
The Triplets Are Coming!
9pm, ITV
The One Born Every Minute phenomenon takes its next logical step with this self-explanatory real-life show. As one specialist says here: “The human race was not designed to carry three babies,” but with triplets one possible outcome of IVF (Steph and Chris have been trying for seven years – now they’ve got three coming), it’s a situation the human race is having to deal with. This two-part documentary is full of massive prams and people “on a journey” but only the stone-hearted won’t raise a smile. John Robinson
Things We Won’t Say About Race That Are True
9pm, Channel 4
That the channel behind Immigration Street would schedule such catnip for Not-Racist-But-ers isn’t a surprise. Having it fronted by Trevor Phillips, former Equality and Human Rights Commission chair, might be. Phillips examines our reluctance to discuss race, positing that noting statistical trends weighted towards individual races need not be sinister. Despite claims made throughout the programme, few minds will be changed by this inconclusive stat-fest. Mark Jones
Muslim Miss World
9pm, BBC3
Whip-smart vlogger Dina Torkia heads to Indonesia to enter a Muslim beauty pageant. She soon discovers World Muslimah is a bootcamp where she must share a bed with other contestants and learn to read the Qur’an in perfect harmony, before being judged by a panel of 100 orphaned children. With her selfie stick and outspoken ways, Dina stands out beautifully, but even she is lost for words when she visits a slum in Jakarta. And as the girls do karaoke on a bus, some surprisingly liberal attitudes are exposed. Hannah Verdier
Celebrity Juice
10pm, ITV2
With 12 series already under its belt, you most likely know the drill when it comes to Keith Lemon’s puerile panel show, packed with racy games and jibes at everyone from Katie Hopkins to Kim Kardashian. This new run sees Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby return as team captains, alongside guests including Jimmy Carr and former fill-in captain Gino D’Acampo. Here’s hoping that the phonic charades of “Don’t Show Keith Your Teeth” and toilet-based Chinese whispers “Shouting One Out” are slated for a reappearance. Hannah J Davies
