Grand Designs
8pm, Channel 4
Kevin McCloud, so often appearing in rerun form that it feels as if he’s become as much multi-aged avatar as man, trawls through the archives to consider the self-building efforts of “highly pragmatic crazy people” who choose to live in the urban jungle. This involves some flowery architect speak – “private sacred spaces” turn out to be places to chill out – but there’s much good sense here as McCloud latterly focuses on how the dreams and schemes of pioneers eventually feed into the mainstream. Big Box Little Box
8.30pm, ITV
As an MDF-laden string of DIY and property shows once inexplicably dominated schedules, so the age of the armchair demigod is upon us. Following the likes of Gogglebox, this series sees families and friends test out unusual products from the comfort of their own homes. This final episode has them unboxing robotic lawnmowers, bouncy exercise boots and skincare products made of bird droppings. While they’re not about to put Which? out of business with their consumer knowhow, they might make you smile. Hannah J Davies
Celebrity MasterChef
9pm, BBC1
The last of the heats sees a likable bunch of would-be chefs face an invention test involving squid, chicken and a mango. Keith Chegwin giggles uncontrollably, Tom Parker (of The Wanted) whips up a spicy chicken pie, and Strictly dancer Natalie Lowe is a dab hand with the squid. EastEnders’ Scott Maslen, meanwhile, shares his veggie flavours, while Samira Ahmed hopes to live up to her mum’s high standards. Then Cheggers, Tom and Samira serve up modern British cuisine at Almeida while Scott and Natalie sweat it out at Kurobuta. Hannah Verdier
Our Holiday Coast
9pm, BBC2
It’s hardly the most idyllic of holiday scenarios, stumbling over blistering hot stones and discarded ice-cream wrappers towards a freezing-cold sea. So why are so many vacationers still so intent on making a beeline for the beach? Nick Crane and his fellow Coastees find out in this new series, which joins a centuries-old tourist trail in Margate, finds Ruth Goodman investigating prewar politics down on St Leonards Beach, Hastings, and sees Miranda Krestovnikoff embarking on a camping safari on Shell Island in north Wales. Ali Catterall
Married At First Sight
9pm, Channel 4
At the start of 2014, 1,500 single people volunteered for this show, which hopes to see the rigour of science triumph over the whims of cupid. The intake was given DNA and psychological tests and whittled down to three perfect couples: James and Emma, Jason and Kate, Jack and Sam. They haven’t met yet – and when they do, the twist is … it will be to get married! It will be interesting to see if they remain together after five weeks (the trial period) but whatever, they sure do look alike. John Robinson
Playhouse Presents: King For A Term
9pm, Sky Arts
Idris Elba writes and directs this one-off story based on his Hackney childhood, when he was transferred to a special school for a term because he was asthmatic. The tale of a boy trying to fit in is a spot-on portrayal of an early-80s school, complete with teachers who get Superglued to the chair. Elba plays his own dad, who wants him to be the next Eddie Grant. Watching “Asthma Boy” gradually make friends is lovely and the story is packed with cheeky charm rather than self-pity. HV
Manhunt With Joel Lambert
9pm, Discovery
Preceded by a behind-the-scenes special, the first episode proper of the new series sees ex-navy Seal and hiding expert Joel Lambert heading for the highlands of Scotland, where he is tracked by a team of ghillies – gamekeepers who know the wild Ardnamurchan Peninsula like the backs of their hands. Head keeper Niall, complete with deerstalker hat, and a four-man team track Lambert, who starts the race by using his none-too-subtle grappling hooks to haul him up sheer rock. Will he evade these seasoned men of the glens? Ben Arnold
