The Great British Sewing Bee
8pm, BBC2
Needles at the ready for the final tonight, where traditionalist Lorna, rookie Matt, and Neil, king of the precise stitch, are up against it. There are fierce challenges, from making an asymmetric top to demonstrating cutting skills to transform a pleated column dress, and more. Watching a discussion about the correct way to iron a sleeve is best left for hardcore fans, but seeing the contestants deal with pressure and make garments for their family members is more like it. Cucumber
9pm, Channel 4
Russell T Davies’s loose follow-up to Queer As Folk concludes – as does its E4 companion series Banana – with Henry having established something of an experimental LGBT commune in the house he shared with Lance. By gathering people around him while Lance’s murderer goes on trial, he’s shielding himself from grief, but an encounter with one of Lance’s old workmates proves a shock to the system, forcing him to confront his own guilt. Ben Arnold
Jimmy Savile: Britain’s Worst Crimes
8pm, Channel 5
A dossier on Britain’s most infamous child rapist. Inevitably, it’s not a complete catalogue of Savile’s crimes, and the low budget means a lot of creepy zooms into still photos. But telling contributions come from former Sunday Mirror editor Paul Connew, from Savile’s nephew and from the victim of a paedophile ring, all underscoring the fact that Savile did not act alone. To its credit, the programme focuses as much on organised abuse as the tale of one monstrous star. Jack Seale
Comic Relief Operation Health
9pm, BBC1
The practical component of this year’s Comic Relief charity drive descends on a rundown healthcare centre in rural Uganda. It is, indeed, a location requiring urgent refurbishment: a healthcare centre without running water or electricity, and overrun by rats, is likely to do rather more harm than good. In a just and fair world, the local people wouldn’t be reliant on Lenny Henry, Richard Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, John Bishop and Doon Mackichan to sort this out, but we don’t live in one of those. Banished
9pm, BBC2
Jimmy McGovern’s drama, set in an 18th-century penal colony, shares a lot of the themes with his previous works, such as The Street and Accused: justice, moral dilemmas, the need to take a stand even in dangerous or near-impossible circumstances. This is enhanced by the often dry, 21st century-style exchanges between characters. Tonight, Major Ross takes one of the women under his dubious protection, while a starving James (Russell Tovey) enlists Tommy’s help to stop the blacksmith from stealing his food. David Stubbs
Fortitude
9pm, Sky Atlantic
This psychological thriller set in a fictional Arctic town intensifies its icy grip on the attention. This week, news of the second murder spreads through the community, bringing fear and panic. DCI Morton and Sheriff Dan turn their attention to schoolteacher Markus, whose behaviour has taken something a strange turn. Meanwhile, Hildur travels to the mainland to try to secure outside help, Frank hopes the latest events will at least exonerate Liam, while Ronnie’s health continues to deteriorate. DS
Fighting the System
9pm, BBC3
Youth is the time for Damascene conversions, and this documentary observes young people who espouse activism. We meet Phoebe and Jayne, sisters who bravely but brainlessly protest animal cruelty; Sarah, who is campaigning against vacant council properties; Yas, who opposes Page 3; and Danielle, whose environmental activism requires frequent legal advice. You can’t knock their belief, but it’s clearly those who are most aware of media relations who seem most likely to develop into serious raisers of consciousness. Julia Raeside
