Thunderstorms to ravage UK with weather warning issued - as Ireland set for heatwave conditions

Parts of the UK are to ravaged by thunderstorms this week - but Ireland looks set to dodge the wet weather.

A large chunk of Northern Ireland has been hit with a Status Yellow warning for Thursday - with the caution valid between 12pm and 9pm.

However, the Republic of Ireland will escape the treacherous conditions as Met Eireann is forecasting hot, humid and dry weather for the rest of the week.

A mini-heatwave could well be on the way to Ireland again as "well above normal" temperatures are being forecast.

After two bleak months of wind and rain, summer finally arrived at the end of June - with one Kerry weather station recording a high of 29.2C.

And while it has been cooler over the past week, the weather chiefs are predicting soaring temperatures once again.

Looking ahead at the weekend, a Met Eireann forecaster said: "Staying essentially fine and dry with light winds and well above normal temperatures."

Meanwhile, Tuesday is to be warmer, with parts of Munster and Leinster expected to experience highs of 23C.

A forecaster added: "Still a few patches of drizzle or light rain in the north tomorrow; otherwise dry with variable cloud.

"Good spells of hazy sunshine - best over the midlands, south and east. A warm humid day.

"Highest temperatures ranging from 17 degrees in the cloudier north to 23 or 24 over inland Munster and Leinster. Light variable winds with sea breezes near coasts."

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are to remain warm, as highs stay in the low 20s.

It should be more sunnier than previous days, despite places getting hit by "well scattered showers".
