Thunderstorms to hit Ireland as Met Eireann issues weather advisory

Met Eireann has issued a weather advisory as thunderstorms are set to hit Ireland.

The national forecaster has warned of 'thunderstorms/lightning activity' especially in parts of the midlands, west and north.

The advisory is valid from 6 am until 11 pm tomorrow.

A Status Yellow thunder warning is currently in place until 11 pm tonight for Munster, Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, and Westmeath.

Dublin will be mostly dry this evening but there is a chance of some showers possibly with thunder.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mainly dry as well tonight with just the risk of a heavy or thundery shower. Patches of fog may develop later. Minimum temperatures of 10C to 12C, coolest under any clearing skies in little or no wind.

"Monday will bring a mix of sunny spells and just scattered showers. The showers may turn heavy in the afternoon.

"Maximum temperatures of 17C to 22C in light southeast or variable breezes."

Speaking about the national outlook for the week they said: "Remaining unsettled, there will be occasional sunny spells but a warm, humid and unstable airmass over Ireland will sparking off some afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the early days of next week."
