Thunderstorms forecast for Sam Fender's outdoor Mouth of the Tyne gig in Tynemouth

Fans heading to Sam Fender's huge homecoming concert in Tynemouth may want to pack a poncho as thunderstorms are forcast.

Sam's outdoor show at Tynemouth Priory on Thursday sold out in record time when Mouth of the Tyne Festival tickets went on sale.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, saying heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely in Tynemouth between 12 noon and 9pm on Thursday, July 11.

Gates open at 5.30pm for Sam's gig, with support acts starting at around 7pm. The gig is set to end by 10pm.

The forecast says there is a 40% chance of heavy rain between 1pm and 10pm in Tynemouth on Thursday.

The rain should be clear for Friday, Saturday and Sunday's Mouth of the Tyne shows, when Jack Savoretti, Rick Astley, and the Proclaimers play at the Priory.

Newcastle is hosting outdoor concerts that weekend too, with Bloc Party, Frank Turner and Richard Ashcroft set to perform at Spillers Wharf, Newcastle, at Wasteland Festival .
