Thunderstorms warning and strong winds predicted to hit Nottingham during half-term

Thunderstorms and breezy weather have been forecast to hit Nottingham as the October half-term gets under way.

BBC weather forecasters predict thunderstorms in the city from around 10am on Wednesday, October 20.

The Met Office added there will also be rain showers in the city for much Wednesday as well as this evening (Tuesday).

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for thunderstorms.

It is in place from 4am on Wednesday until midday the same day.

A brief period of heavy rain, thunderstorms and very gusty winds may cause some disruption on Wednesday morning.

Temperatures will stay pretty warm for the time of year, ranging from 15C to 17C during the two days.

Gusts will get up to 34mph meaning it will feel pretty miserable along with the rain.

Here's the outlook for the region over the coming days from the Met Office:

Today (October 19):

A cloudy day, with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain spreading northeastwards across the region. Rain easing for much of the region through the afternoon, but with further periods of heavier rain pushing into the south by dusk. Breezy but mild. Maximum temperature 18C.

Tonight:

Cloud and rain for southern parts at first, clearing by midnight. Mainly dry with clear spells possible through the early hours with winds easing. Minimum temperature 13C.

Wednesday:

A dry and generally clear start, but cloud, rain and a strengthening breeze soon spreading east across the region, the rain turning heavy at times. Drier later with scattered showers. Maximum temperature 15C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Early showers easing, then mainly dry, but becoming colder with scattered showers and strong winds. Further showers and easing winds Friday. Mainly dry and bright Saturday, becoming breezy.
