Thunderstorms and rain predicted to end 28C September heatwave

Despite two scorching days to come, the September heatwave looks set to end with a bang as thunderstorms are predicted.

Both Tuesday and Wednesday September 7/8 will see the mercury soar for this time of year with highs of 28C in Nottingham.

There is also bright sunshine predicted throughout both days.

But according to the Met Office, Thursday is going to be much wetter with a chance of rain all day and even some thunderstorms lurking.

The weather experts predict a 60 percent chance of a thunderstorm at around 4pm on September 9 as of Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will also drop to highs of around 21C during the day.

Humidity is also expected to be incredibly high between 73 and 93 percent throughout the day - so a downpour may be welcome for some.

Here's the Met Office outlook in the region for the days ahead:

Today (September 7):

A fine and dry day on Tuesday, with plenty of sunshine once early mist and fog patches dissipate. Feeling very warm or hot, although cooler near the coast. Light winds. Maximum temperature 29 °C.

Tonight:

Dry with large amounts of evening sun, followed by plenty of clear spells overnight. Some light winds, leading to a few mist and fog patches. Mild. Minimum temperature 15 °C.

Wednesday:

Another dry and sunny day, feeling again very warm or hot. Some light winds, though breezy on the Derbyshire hills and perhaps coasts. Sun becoming hazy in the evening. Maximum temperature 29 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Rather cloudy with sunny spells and showers, these widespread, occasionally heavy and locally thundery on Thursday and Friday. A marked improvment on Saturday, with drier, brighter conditions. Less warm.
