Weather warning as thunderstorms and flooding set to batter Scotland

Scotland been issued with a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms and flooding.

Treacherous weather conditions are predicted to sweep across the central belt as well as Tayside and Fife on Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures are set to peak at 28C on Thursday, and will stay warm throughout the weekend and into next week.

Glasgow and Dumfries' toasty temperatures are set to continue in Saturday with highs of 24C.

Cities such as Edinburgh and Dundee will see highs of 21C.

Further north, temperatures will reach between 17 and 20C.

By Sunday most of Scotland's major cities and towns will are set for highs of 18C as thunderstorms continue to batter the country all weekend.

They have warned of a danger of flooding and damage to buidings.

Public transport could also be affected.

A statement from forecasters read: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

The affected areas are; Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire, Angus Clackmannanshire, Dundee, Falkirk, Fife, Perth and Kinross and Stirling.
