Glasgow weather: More thunderstorm weather warnings as city braced for high temperatures

The Met Office has issued two separate yellow weather warnings for Glasgow with the potential for thunder and lightning to hit our city.

The west coast of Scotland is expected to see temperatures approaching 30C over the next couple of days, bringing a mixture of sunshine and heavy rain.

However forecasters predict we could also experience thunderstorms with a weather warning in place from 4pm tomorrow (Thursday) until 9am on Friday, and from 12 noon Friday until 6am on Saturday.

The Met Office say: "Whilst many places will be dry or see little rain, thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in a few places."

What to expect

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
