Thunderstorm warning as Met office issues yellow warning for Nottinghamshire

The met office has issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms for Nottinghamshire.

According to the weather forecaster we should expect thunderstorms and heavy rain today and tomorrow.

The alert says that the storms could also lead to flooding and travel disruption.

With maximum temperatures of 20 degrees on Tuesday, July 27, the Met Office says localised downpours and even hail could follow in parts of Notts this afternoon.

The possibility of thundery rain will continue into the early evening.

Heavy rain and thunder forecast (Nottingham Post)

Although Wednesday is forecast to start bright and sunny the warning stays in place.

There will be isolated showers throughout the morning, which will turn to frequent, perhaps thundery showers by the afternoon.

At the moment, it looks like a fresher feeling day again with highs tomorrow of 22 degrees. It will also be noticeably breezier.

What could we expect with a Yellow warning

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and possibly some road closures
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater or lightning strikes
