Thunder unveil basketball court for Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma

A new Girl Scouts camp in Oklahoma has an addition from the local professional NBA team.

The Oklahoma City Thunder contributed a brand new basketball court to Camp Trivera in OKC’s Adventure District.

Camp Trivera is a new camp location to be used by the Girls Scouts of Western Oklahoma and has a $12 million STEM program on 17 acres of land.

“I look at this (court) and I almost cried because it’s gorgeous and it’s state of the art, and there’s nets on the basketball rims,” Shannon Evers, CEO of the Girls Scouts of Western Oklahoma, said to the Thunder website.

“People don’t really realize a lot of kids in Oklahoma City and throughout our council don’t actually have access to a basketball court that is this high quality and so colorful and fun and welcoming.”

The court won’t just be used for basketball.

It will also be an astronomy pad for the programs about space.

This is the 28th court that the Thunder Cares Foundation has built or refurbished since 2009.

“I think when we invest in (the girls), it makes them feel special, it makes them feel like they can do anything and when they can do anything, our world can change,” Evers said.
