Thunder trade Paul George to Clippers, land Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The Oklahoma City Thunder have reportedly traded Paul George to the L.A. Clippers for a package including guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Oklahoma City also landed veteran forward Danilo Gallinari as well as a “record-setting” collection of draft picks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Thunder will reportedly receive four unprotected first-round picks as well as one protected first-rounder and two picks swaps in addition to the sophomore guard and Gallinari.

Even after the trade to send George to Los Angeles, OKC now has an estimated tax bill of $31.8 million for next season (via Early Bird Rights).

Meanwhile, the Thunder now have an inexplicable amount of value at just the point guard position with Russell Westbrook and Gilgeous-Alexander without much depth elsewhere on their roster.

Even though Gallinari has some immediate value, his contract comes off the books after next season. There will be a ton of draft picks to help the Thunder rebuild their roster — though none project to be particularly good picks if the Clippers have two-way superstars George and Kawhi Leonard on their squad.
