Thunder to buyout Patrick Patterson, intends to sign with Clippers

The Oklahoma City Thunder are continuing their roster overhaul as they undergo the beginnings of a rebuild. First, it was Paul George, then it was Jerami Grant, and then the final nail in the coffin was moving Russell Westbrook.

Now, they are officially moving on from a veteran power forward.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Thunder will buyout Patrick Patterson from the final season on his contract. He also intends to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers when once his $5.7 million salary is cleared.

Patterson signed a 3-year deal with the Thunder, but after two seasons of not playing much, it was time to move on. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in his two seasons.

The Thunder had signed Patterson as a three-point sniper, but he could not provide in other areas of the game to stay on the floor long enough. He only averaged 14.7 minutes per game.

He will now head to the Clippers and join George as they look to contend in the Western Conference. The Thunder will continue their rebuilding efforts.
