Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander listed as out against Jazz

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss his second game in a row due to a right ankle sprain, according to The Oklahoman’s Joe Mussatto.

Gilgeous-Alexander sat during the game on Monday against the Atlanta Hawks with the same injury. He started the first 16 games of the season.

His numbers have slipped this season after an excellent 2020-21 campaign. The star guard is averaging 20.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game this season. The drop in scoring has been due to a decreased shooting percentage — both his overall field goal and 3-point percentages are down about 10% from last season.

Gilgeous-Alexander missed the final 29 games last season due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

OKC, which lost all but three of those final 29 games without SGA last season, fell 113-101 to the Hawks on Monday. The Thunder are scheduled to tip off against the Jazz at 7 p.m. Central Time on Wednesday night.

It is unclear who will start in Gilgeous-Alexander’s place. On Monday, the Thunder started a dual-big lineup with Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Derrick Favors.

Catch the action at Bally Sports Oklahoma or at Paycom Center for their first game back at home after a short road trip.
