Thunder’s Paul George named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for Week 17 of the 2018-19 season, the league announced Monday afternoon.

In three games, George averaged 37 points, eight rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals for the Thunder while he shot 42.9 percent (18-of-42) from 3-point range.

George led the Thunder to a 3-0 record on the week as the team picked up wins over the Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets.

The award for George marks the third of the season after just earning Player of the Week honors two weeks ago for the Thunder when he averaged 31.5 points per game on the week.

George is averaging a career-high 28.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, four assists and 2.3 steals per game this season for the Thunder and is among the candidates for the MVP award.

In a win over the Rockets Saturday night, George recorded his second 45-point game of the season, tying the most such games in a season during his career.

His 45-point outing was also the first time in 70 tries that an opponent has outscored James Harden (42) when he recorded at least 40 points in game, according to ESPN.

George is fourth in the NBA in scoring.
