Thunder, lightning and torrential rain set to hit Liverpool today

Thunderstorms are set to hit Liverpool today along with torrential rain.

Merseyside will see a dry start to Monday but by this afternoon thunderstorms are set to sweep across the region. It comes after a largely sunny weekend, with the city basking in sunshine on Saturday.

The rain is currently forecast to arrive at 11am today, easing briefly at 3pm and then turning heavy again into this evening. The wet weather will make way for sunshine by 7pm, with temperatures reaching highs of 20 degrees.

No weather warnings have been issued for Liverpool yet but the Met Office has forecast thundery showers later today. According to the latest forecast, it will feel particularly humid from 10am until 4pm, when the rain will also be at its heaviest.

The Met Office said: "Cloudy skies with outbreaks of rain this morning, turning heavy at times. Rain will ease a little in the afternoon, but there will still be some heavy showers around, possibly thundery.

"Drier and brighter to end the day. Maximum temperature 20 °C. Showers clearing this evening to leave a dry night. Cloud will break up to give some clear spells, but it will stay fairly mild. Minimum temperature 10 °C."
