Thunder have reportedly waived guard Alex Abrines on Saturday

The Thunder reportedly waived third-year guard Alex Abrines on Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

After Abrines established himself as a key player for the Thunder to start the season, he has since missed 20 out of the last 22 games for the team, mostly due to personal reasons.

While Abrines was not playing, he was still seen regularly with the team during practice, shootaround and on the road.

Abrines recently returned to play against the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat but he has since missed the past three games for the team.

Abrines was the 32nd overall pick by the Thunder in the 2013 NBA Draft and was one of the top shooters on the roster as a career 36.8 percent 3-point shooter.

After reportedly parting ways with Abrines, the Thunder now have just 12 players signed to guaranteed contracts and a pair of two-way contracts.

Following the trade deadline, the team was expected to be active in the buyout market and the release of Abrines likely means the front office will look to sign a player soon.
