Thunder Castle eye top spot

Buriram United players train ahead of their match against Samut Prakarn City.

Defending champions Buriram United will be looking to pile pressure on leaders PT Prachuap when the Thai League 1 hostilities resume on Saturday after a two-week Fifa international break.

The Thunder Castle, who lag one point behind Prachuap, host Samut Prakarn City and are confident of picking up three points from their fourth-placed opponents.

With only one point separating Samut Prakarn and Buriram, the visitors will also be keen for a victory, which could see them take over the top spot, at least for 24 hours.

Prachuap face a tricky assignment at Chonburi where the Sharks will be eager to end their winless league run tomorrow. Chonburi are at the bottom of the table with just one point to their credit after four matches.

While Buriram United coach Bozidar Bandovic is happy to have his club's stars back from their national team duties with the senior and U23 squads, he has a couple of key players injured.

Thailand defender Pansa Hemviboon, who picked up an injury while training with the War Elephants, and right wing back Sasalak Haiprakhon both need to undergo fitness checks before the match.

Bandovic said: "We are looking forward to the game with Samut Prakarn.

"It could be a tough match for us because Samut Prakarn are a good team and they are only one point behind us.

"It is an advantage that we will be playing at our home ground, so we are targeting three points from the match."

Samut Prakarn City are hoping to build on the solid start they have had to the new season.

Their coach Surapong Kongthep also has his worries as some of the key players are on the injury list.

"It will be a tough game for our team. Buriram are a strong team and full of quality internationals. Although they don't have Diogo Luis Santo anymore, they have others who can score goals for the team," said Surapong.

"We have to check on the fitness of Kyaw Ko Ko, but chances are he will start on the bench.

"We have Jakkrit Wechpirom, Picha Autra and Peeradon Chumratsamee back from their national team duties, so we can hope for at least a draw at Buriram."

Meanwhile, Ratchaburi's new coach Marco Simone, a former AC Milan and Italy star, will get his first taste of the Thai top flight when his men take on former champions SCG Muang Thong United on Sunday.

Simone has overseen Ratchaburi team's training for only three days, but is happy that "the players have started to understand his style."
