Thunder assistant Mark Bryant a ‘top contender’ to join Suns’ staff

Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Mark Bryant, who has been with the organization since 2007, could leave the team this offseason.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the 54-year-old former NBA player is one of the prime candidates to work with Monty Williams as one of the assistants with the Phoenix Suns. Oklahoma City coach Billy Donovan reportedly hoped to add Williams to his staff with Bryant back in 2015.

Other possibilities mentioned for the position in Phoenix included Portland Trail Blazers assistant Steve Blake and Brooklyn Nets scout Randy Ayers.

Bryant played in the NBA from 1988 until 2003, including two years for the Suns. The former forward also played 11 games alongside Williams with the Philadelphia 76ers during his final professional season.
