Thunder and lightning storm hits Wales as people describe 'best thunderstorm in years'

Wales was hit by a fierce storm last night, as thunder and, especially, lightning struck.

The storm hit during the early hours of the morning, as predicted by the Met Office, who had previously issued a yellow weather warning.

A house near Wrexham was set on fire after being struck by lightning. Nobody was injured, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said.

But that area of Wales was the wettest area in the UK overnight, getting 15mm of rain in one hour.

Temperatures are set to rise again from today, with Cardiff and other parts of south-east Wales forecast to hit 29°C on Friday.

South-east England, however, could experience temperatures of 37°C, which would break the UK's hottest ever July temperature record, recorded in Heathrow in 2015, when temperatures reached 36.7°C.
