Thunder and hail forecast for Dublin as Met Eireann issues WEATHER WARNING for parts of Leinster

Met Eireann has said that Dublin will be plagued with hail and thunder as snow falls all around its neighbouring counties.

The National forecaster has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for parts of Leinster and Munster for Wednesday.

The warning is for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow, Offaly and Tipperary and is in place from 2pm on Wednesday until 2am Thursday morning.

Met Eireann says: "A spell of heavy rain is likely to lead to some spot flooding and will turn to sleet and snow in places later today."

In the capital they are forecasting "wintry falls" possibly on higher ground as Dublin is rocked by hail and thunder.

There will also be outbreaks of rain which will become persistent and heavy towards evening.

Temperatures will drop to 0 in the night time with frost and icy patches visible by dawn.

Met Eireann added that Wednesday would be cold and breezy with possible wintry conditions over Leinster leading to snow on hills and mountains.

They concluded: "The rain and sleet will clear southwards overnight with clear periods following and with frost and icy patches developing."
