Thunder acquire 37th pick Vit Krejci from Wizards on draft night

The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired the draft rights to Vit Krejci on Wednesday night, completing a trio of international prospects who will now call Oklahoma City home.

Krejci, who was selected with the Washington Wizards’ 37th overall pick, was acquired by general manager Sam Presti in exchange for the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and a future second-round pick. News of the trade was first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The acquisition of Krejci was the final move in what was an eventful day for the Thunder front office.

On draft day alone, the team agreed to acquire Al Horford from the Philadelphia 76ers, traded Ricky Rubio to Minnesota and made a few other moves that resulted in the club walking away from the draft with the rights to the 17th, 34th and 38th picks.

With those picks, the team respectively drafted three international prospects:
Aleksej Pokusevski, Theo Maledon and the aforementioned Krejci.

With respect to Krejci, the guard is a second-generation basketball player hailing from the Czech Republic. He is mostly believed to be a “draft and stash” prospect after suffering a torn ACL while playing professionally in Spain earlier this season. Billed as a point guard, the 20-year-old stands at an impressive 6-foot-7. He will probably be seen in the NBA one day, even if not this season.

Nonetheless, Krejci becomes a member of the Thunder and ends the night as one of three interesting international prospects that general manager Sam Presti adds to his rebuilding club.
