Thugs throw bottles at heavily pregnant woman on Luas tram in Dublin

A heavily pregnant woman was left shaken after being attacked by a gang of youths on a Luas tram.

The incident happened on the Red Line in Dublin city centre on Easter Monday afternoon.

The large gang is believed to have entered the tram before shouting at the young woman and throwing bottles at her.

The Luas driver and gardai were informed.

One witness told The Irish Daily Mirror the huge group then exited the tram at Suir Road in Hybreasal, near St James’s Hospital.

She said: “They got on the Luas at the Museum stop.

“They were loud and extremely rude. A lot were in wetsuits. They all got off at Suir Road.

“Then it became clear they had been throwing stuff at and abusing a heavily pregnant woman. I had heard some of the guys shout ‘she’s not pregnant... she’s just fat’ but I could not see who it was aimed at at the time.

“But afterwards it became clear the group were verbally attacking the woman, who was on her own.

“She complained to the Luas driver and rang gardai.”

The witness said the woman was visibly shaken by the ordeal and blasted the legal system for not doing enough.

She added: “It’s embarrassing for Ireland that there is no law protecting citizens from hostile juveniles. They are running wild and do as they please.”

Gardai confirmed they are investigating an incident.
