Thugs threw concrete slab through Hyundai's window before vehicle torched just days later

Thugs threw a concrete slab through a car's rear window before the vehicle was torched in a suspected arson attack just days later.

Two unknown men targeted a dark grey Hyundai ix35 which was parked outside a home on Orkney Close in Widnes .

A Cheshire police spokesman said the duo threw a concrete slab through the rear window.

Then just after midnight on Thursday, July 18, the same car at the same home was targeted in an apparent arson attack, which caused 'extensive damage'.

Cheshire Fire And Rescue Service sent a crew and the car was found 'well alight' on a driveway.

Firefighters were at the scene for around one hour.

Probes in connection with the criminal damage -  which occurred at approximately 10.15pm on Tuesday, July 16 - and the arson are ongoing and officers are currently 'keeping an open mind' as to whether they are linked.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Constable Tom Lucas of Widnes CID said: “The investigations into these incidents are in their early stages and we are currently following a number of lines of enquiry.

“As part of our investigations we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the times of either of the incidents and believes they may have witnessed something that may be relevant.

“We also want to speak to anyone who thinks they may have information regarding the identities of the offenders.

“The same goes for anyone who believes they may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could aid our investigations.”

Anyone with information or CCTV footage regarding either of the incidents is asked to contact Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML 459410, or via the force's website HERE .
