Thugs storm house before man and woman hurt in horrifying machete attack

Two people have been taken to hospital following a machete attack in Rochdale.

Police were called to reports a man and woman had been hurt during an incident at a property on Mellor Street shortly after 2pm today (Saturday).

Three men are believed to have forced entry into the house before attacking a man with a machete.

A woman inside the address was also injured during the terrifying incident.

The man, 27, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries to his hands, arms and back, police said.

A 53-year-old woman has also been taken to hospital with a minor injury to her hand.

Both victims remain in a stable condition.

Detectives are treating the attack as an 'isolated incident' and say there is no wider threat to the public.

A police cordon has been erected outside the terraced property on Mellor Street this afternoon (22 May) as investigation work is carried out.

Plain clothes detectives and forensic teams could be seen entering the property and examining the street outside.

No arrests have been made and police say enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Police were called shortly after 2pm today (Saturday 22 May 2021) to reports of a stabbing on Mellor Street, Rochdale.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries have established that three men forced entry to a property before attacking a man with a machete.

"A woman was also injured.

"A 27-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries to his hands, arms and back and a 53-woman has been taken to hospital with a minor injury to her hand. Both remain in a stable condition.

"No arrests have been made and a scene is in place whilst enquiries are ongoing.

"This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public."
