Thugs smash Dublin Bus driver in face with rock forcing road closure and service to be suspended

Horrible thugs put Dublin Bus passengers in danger after they hit a driver in the head with a rock while he was behind the wheel.

Swarms of garda cars were called to the scene in Kiltalown, Tallaght on Friday night after the bus driver of the 77A was hit with the weapon during one of his last shifts of the night.

The stretch of road near the Jobstown Inn was closed for a short time with buses finishing at The Square in Tallaght.

A source told Dublin Live: "We have family working in Dublin Bus and we were very worried to hear that a driver had been targeted. It sounded like the driver was badly injured also. It's a horrible thing to have happen to someone just doing their job."

A spokesman for Dublin Bus confirmed the news to Dublin Live saying: "An incident took place on Friday 6 December involving a Route 77a. This incident is currently under investigation."

Sadly this is not an isolated incident and is the second time in the last four weeks where young thugs have tried to take aim at drivers and passengers on a Dublin Bus using stones and rocks from the road.

On November 17, the company advised customers that route 27 would not serve Jobstown for the rest of the night after a stone shattered the bus window in a late night attack.

A witness told Dublin Live: "People were throwing stones at the bus earlier in the day and Dublin Bus had to divert the route for one hour.

"Then, around 9pm they started throwing stones at the windows again and broke one of them."

"It's only a matter of time before someone is badly hurt."
