Thugs seeking confrontation with police are not real Rangers fans

I REFER to the article by Ronnie Esplin, “Manager accepts blame for below-par performance” (Oct 6), specifically the caption in the photograph attached: “A group of Rangers fans stand behind the team bus following yesterday’s draw at Falkirk.”

Can I please ask that you do not label these masked thugs preparing to confront the police as “fans”! Football “fans”, REAL fans do not act in this way, THUGS DO!

These followers of football clubs have no place in the game. They have permeated every club in Scotland and beyond and bring the game into disrepute at every opportunity.

If it’s not the Union Bears, it’s the Green Brigade or whatever name they are called, so please stop giving these thugs a platform!

They do not represent the ordinary football fan in Scotland. They are a source of perpetuating the sectarian behaviour that is the very curse of the Scottish game.

I would welcome your efforts to stamp these thugs OUT of football, but this is certainly NOT how to do it.
