The elderly man was reported to have been punched in the face causing him to fall to the ground.

He was then said to have been kicked in the ribs before having his Halifax banking book stolen by the thugs.

Afterwards, a post appeared on Facebook believed to be by the victim's son, asking if anyone had seen his dad's attackers.

The post said the time of the attack was slightly earlier, between 11am and 12pm, but said the two men had tried to "strangle" his dad, and punched him leaving his face a "mess".

The family member went on to say the attack had left the pensioner "really shook up", and that the men had taken their dad's bank cards and savings book.

Police said witness and CCTV enquiries are being carried out and have urged anyone who has any information to come forward.
