Thugs pull knife on German tourist after robbing phone and cash in Dublin City Centre

A German tourist was robbed at knife-point by a group of thugs in the middle of Dublin.

Frankfurt native Noah told how his friend Daniel had his bag emptied by the thugs who then pulled a knife when they realised what had happened.

Noah, who has the best English in the group, told Joe Duffy how one of the gang got in Daniel's face to distract him while the other went into his bag.

The incident happened along the boardwalk in the city centre around midnight on Thurday with the thugs managing to get Daniel's Iphone, passport, and €350 before pulling the knife.

Things escalated and one of the friends pulled Daniel away, it was straight after they realised what happened.

The German said the thief then pulled a knife which is why they didn't try approach him to get it back.

"We called the police.

"Police said we should report them to the station which we did. We also described them and had to go to the German embassy to get the passport.

"After we talked to the police we just went back to the area by the river (the boardwalk) but they weren't there anymore.

"Daniel is OK, he's not been hurt or anything. He's OK."

Despite this, Noah said they loved their trip,

"I will come back when I finish my school. I loved the city. We just have to be careful where we go but it's such a nice place.

"We met some guys the next day and they told us in the past week there has been five or six phones stolen there (at the boardwalk). It's a dangerous place."
