The 58-year-old was assaulted by the pair on Nelson Street at around 1.15pm on Sunday July 12.

The suspects made off with a sum of cash and some personal items, leaving their victim seriously injured and requiring hospital treatment.

Cops are now appealing to anyone who may have information over the shocking incident.

One of the suspects is described as being around 30-years-old, with dark hair, wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.

The second man was older, with a shaven head, wearing a beige jacket and blue jeans and was last seen in the Grant Street area.

Detective Sergeant Steven Mackenzie said: "This crime resulted in serious injuries to the vulnerable victim, requiring hospital treatment.

"We are asking anyone who may have been in the area around the time and seen either the incident itself, or the men in question, to please get in touch."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2130 of 12 July. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.
