Thugs 'kick in window' of business as devastated owners forced to close

A St Helens business has been forced to close after its windows were smashed in.

Owners Jamie Leicester and Gareth Furness returned after an event in Yorkshire over the weekend to find their shop, Rebalance Therapy and Training Centre in St Helens town centre, covered in glass.

Due to the amount of damage caused the owners said they initially thought a car had been used 'due to the force'.

Following the incident they have had to close their business and cancel clients and are unsure when they will be able to reopen.

Merseyside Police has confirmed that enquiries are ongoing.

Gareth told the ECHO: "We’ve been operating in St Helens for about 18 months. We took on the shop in January this year and opened in the premises on April 12, so we’re relatively new to this building

"It was about just gone 4am this morning, we were returning from an event we’d been to in Yorkshire and as we got back we noticed that our wheelie bins from the side of the premises had been put in front of the window.

"As we passed Jamie said by the window was smashed and wood had been put there to almost secure it.

"We realised all the damage that had been caused and glass inside the shop. They must have used so much force, a waiting area chair had been flung across the room, we thought has a car caused that damage.

"We were angry and frustrated and disappointed that people think it’s appropriate to behave like that."

Gareth said other residents and business have since contacted them and claim a man was seen and heard in the area "kicking" other windows and shutters.

He said they are unsure whether it will be safe to open for clients tomorrow because of the extent of glass smashed.

Gareth said: "It’s devastating because we haven't been able to open today we’ve had to cancel our clients and we’re trying to process what happened.

"There's a big crack right through the window, we don't know how secure it is to have clients in.

Jamie said the community have come out to support the group and that they hope the person responsible is found.

He said: "We've had other businesses coming over asking if we’re ok. If we cant open tomorrow we've got the offer of using another room in one of the businesses in their salon.

"We've had really good support, people saying they’ll check their CCTV. It makes a bad situation a whole lot better."

Posting to Facebook, the team said: "During the early of hours of this morning the window of our shop was broken, we believe the damage was caused by two males.

"Fortunately no items were stolen as they were disturbed by a neighbour.

"The police would like any CCTV that may help them with their enquiries, if you are on Barrow Street and have any CCTV that points in the direction of our shop please let us know they headed in the direction towards OD’s.

"We will be CLOSED today until the window is secured and all the remainder of broken glass is cleared. Thank you"
