Thugs in McDonald's break teenager's jaw with knuckleduster attack as he ate lunch

A teenager with special needs was savagely attacked by thugs who reportedly used a knuckleduster as he ate lunch at McDonald’s.

Ansel Causer suffered horrific injuries after a vicious attack in the restaurant in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, last week.

The 18-year-old was set upon by a group of youths on September 16, with one believed to have been using the weapon during the assault.

The teen suffered three fractures to his jaw and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for emergency surgery.

Now his mum Tracey Causer told BirminghamLive that those responsible must brought to justice for the good of the area.

She said: “It’s life-changing for him.

"Ansel needed his younger brother to help him out and go to the college with him as he has special needs.

“He was with a few kids that he doesn’t know too well but they go to college. He remembers a white lad come in with two or three others. One went to the left inside McDonald’s. He’s seen an Asian lad go in there.

“This white kid walked past him with another Asian lad and they asked ‘are you good?’

“The next thing he knew one was coming from behind him and hitting him with a chair. He was being attacked with chairs. No-one’s helped him.

“And then from behind another one has come and punched him in the face, he’s not sure how many times. I don’t know how it stopped."

He was taken for his operation, which took two-and-a-half hours and had three metal plates put in his mouth as well and stitches in his cheek and at the front and back of his mouth.

She said: “He’s on a liquid diet for two weeks and has to be careful as his mouth bleeds.

"We have had to go out and buy milkshakes. And nourishment squashes. He has to drink out of a straw. I have had to mash up his food like babies food. We don't know if he'll be able to go back on his college course because it's a football course.

“The doctors said when he got punched they can tell something was used because of the damage to his jaw. It went from right to left."

A police spokeswoman said: “An investigation has been launched after a teenager was assaulted inside McDonalds, Lower Parade in Sutton Coldfield last Thursday (16 September).

“The 18-year-old had a chair thrown at him and was punched in the face after being approached by around four or five boys who fled the restaurant after the attack.

“The teenager suffered a broken jaw and since the attack has undergone surgery for his injuries.

“At this stage we believe this to have been a targeted attack.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat and quoting crime reference number 20/1743921/21. Or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said: “We are aware of an incident taking place at our restaurant on September 16th and we have assisted the police with their enquiries.”
