Thugs hold boy at knifepoint and steal brand new bike in terrifying mugging in busy Raheny park

Two thugs held a boy at knifepoint before stealing his new bicycle in a brazen mugging in north Dublin yesterday.

The terrifying ordeal took place in the busy St Anne’s Park, Raheny shortly before 4pm.

The poor lad, who had only got the brand new mountain bike a week before as a birthday present, was fortunately not hurt in the incident.

His father took to Facebook to ask people to keep their eyes out for the bike, a black Orbea model with distinctive orange streaks along the frame, which the thugs may look to sell on social media pages.

He posted: "Can everyone please share, my son was held at knifepoint today near St Anne's and his bike was stolen?

"The model is Orbea. He only got it for his birthday last Monday."

One poster had good advice, commenting: "Keep a look at marketplace on Facebook - lots of stolen bikes do end up being sold there."

Another added: "I've heard of several incidents like this in and around St Anne's.

"Always appear to target younger teenagers. Wonder that no family member questions somebody when they turn up with a new bike!"

A garda spokesman confirmed the horror incident, saying: "Gardaí are investigating a bicycle theft that occurred yesterday afternoon at approximately 3.45pm in St. Anne’s Park in Raheny.

"Two males approached the victim and took the bike. No injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing."
