Thugs armed with SLEDGEHAMMER smash Edinburgh ATM before trying to drag it away with car

Three men armed with sledgehammers smashed an ATM machine and tried to drag it away with a car.

The raiders struck the auto-teller inside Virgin bank in Edinburgh city centre in the early hours of this morning.

A police source said: “They had sledgehammers which they used to smash their way in and then tried to rip the ATM out with a car.

“They didn’t get away with anything.”

Police Scotland confirmed they attended an incident in Castle Street at 3.30am and said enquiries are ongoing.
