Thugs allegedly beat and racially abuse teenage boy in Crumlin, Dublin

Three adults including one pushing a baby in a pram, allegedly battered and racially abused a defenceless teenager in a sickening racist attack in south Dublin.

The 15-year-old boy was eating lunch with his friend in Sundrive Park, Crumlin when the thugs launched their unprovoked and violent ambush at around 12:20pm.

Gardai are investigating after the yobs allegedly rained down blows on the innocent lad's face while shouting sickening racial slurs, Dublin Live reports.

The terrified young man was taken to hospital with facial injuries following the alleged assault in which he was allegedly pummelled mercilessly.

Local Councillor Peter Dooley said he was "disgusted" by the "horrific attack" and offered his support to the boy and his family and friends.

He said: "I hope he recovers from the terrible injuries inflicted on him.

"There is no place for disgusting racism in our great community and society and should be challenged and called out whenever it occurs."

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live they are investigating the incident.

He said: "Gardaí are investigating an assault that occurred in Sundrive Park at approximately 12:20pm this afternoon, Monday 21 September 2020.

"A male juvenile in his teens was taken to Crumlin Children’s Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

"No arrests have  been made at this time, investigations are ongoing."

The spokesman encouraged anyone who has been the victim of a hate crime to report it to gardai.

He added: "An Garda Síochána takes hate crime seriously, and each and every hate crime reported to us is professionally investigated and victims supported during the criminal justice process.

"The Garda Diversity and Integration Strategy 2019 – 2021 has a significant focus on enhancing the identification, reporting, investigation and prosecution of hate crimes and An Garda Síochána is taking actions to improve internal recording and encourage more reporting by the public."
